After two successful editions in 2017 (Pontresina/Switzerland) and 2019 (Biarritz/France), the IMAGinING RIFTING Workshop (IRW) is back from Marrakech/Morocco this time, on the foothills of the High Atlas belt. Scheduled over 5 days (11 to 15 November, 2024), the workshop will include 2 days of talks and discussions, 2 days of field excursions in the Central High Atlas, and 1 day dedicated to a hands-on introduction to numerical modelling (using the ASPECT code).
Discussions and presentations will focus on themes relevant to advancing our understanding of rift systems and rifted margins, including (but not limited to):
inheritance control on early stages of rifting;
role of salt in rifting and drifting;
Atlantic conjugate margins;
numerical and analogue geodynamic modelling of lithospheric extension.
Important Information:
We anticipate the registration fee to be around €1600/person (all inclusive), depending on the total number of participants. This fee will cover a private hotel room for the duration of the workshop, meals (breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and coffee breaks), conference room, and two full-day-field excursions. The participants will need to arrange transportation to and from the venue upon arrival to Marrakech and when departing.
The number of participants is limited to 50 to ease field excursion logistics, so please RSVP to express your interest in participating by July 1, 2024.
All participants will have the opportunity to present their research orally.
Depending on the number of people interested in participating, the organizing committee might have to run a selection process based on research interests and proposed contributions.
The final list of participants will be confirmed by mid-July.
Confirmed participants should complete the registration by no later than August 1, 2024.
